Today was kinda lonely. My room was so empty. I hugged my bird (see previous post). However, Luisa (one of my juniors left) helped me make my wall into a collage of this year's projects.
I found myself more optimistic than I thought I would be. I was actually very positive today because I started looking around me at the students I didn't have in my class and I found that I'm very excited about who I'll have in my class next year. I guess that's just how it goes. You're sad about your kids leaving but then you get excited because you realize there will be more fun kids to get to know.
Anyway, I was grading Vote justifications from 3rd today and I have some excerpts I'd like to share. The kids were supposed to vote for the candidate and then justify their vote in a paragraph. The following are quotes from those, most of which are either just interesting or one made me laugh out loud.
"I do not support Mr. Hwang's ideas in the least. ...However, Hwang proved himself in the debates as he 'roared back again and again,' proving his strong leadership characteristics. These are enough to make me overlook other ideological differences. While Felser is closer ideologically to me, Hwang proved himself to be a much better leader, which we need in times like these (note that he's applying this to the world...not just our class...which is interesting...it was that real enough to him). It seems kindof like Bush v. Kerry, except that Hwang is more reasonable than Bush."
"In conclusion, I voted for Jake because I agree with him on most issues. We can work on his plan for Iraq later."
This is one of my favorites...little punk. "If I were not a party leader for the Olde English Party I would vote for Jake Felser. I like Alex's stance (on a bunch of things)...I disagree with both candidates but Alex goes too far for me. I also hate how Jake supports ultra-liberal groups like the women's rights camp, but I can live with that. But b/c I put in so much work to get Alex elected, it would be even more wrong for me to not support him now, especially b/c I don't really like either candidate." Gee...thanks Ross...he's one of those voters that just complains about everything but votes party line every time!
From the other candidate, commenting on Jake's campaign song of the mock, "A Man Like Felser," previously, "A Man Like Putin"..."Jake's lack of preparation and concern reflect his lack of care in the office of President. Finally, he compared himself to Putin, a corrupt, dangerous, and manipulative leader--I think that may be revealing." (I laughed out loud when I read that conclusion.)
Lastly, there is Luisa...who gives a very in-depth, logical justification of her vote. She tacked on the end, "And also, Felser and Axell look cool in stunner shades. hehe. That's irrelevant though. =)"

- I am a thinker and a learner. I love God deeply though I am still learning to get my strength from Him. I am a teacher and as I learn to love my students more they show me both respect and ways that I am weak. This year is a year where I am learning the meaning of "where I am weak, He is strong."
